Because of the quarter moon phase, we just finished a week with minimal tide movement. On the other hand, we were fortunate to have some of the mildest winds we’ve seen in a bit. Too, even though it was cool first thing in the morning, it warmed up nicely in the afternoon leaving some great days to be out. We’ve been fishing Pine Island Sound. Even though some flats have provided a few shots at tailing redfish, we spent most of our time targeting the family fish, the spotted sea trout. With water temperatures in the low 60’s, they’ve been cooperative and keeping us busy. They attack a bait hard and have provided fun for anglers of all skill levels. The clouser has been our most effective fly working the sand holes out on the grass flats. However this past week, particularly on high water, we’ve had some good success throwing a white paddle tail on a 1/4 ounce jig head with a light spinning rod out over the grass between the holes. It appears it’s going to warm up this coming week with what looks like one decent front coming through later in the week. It should be a good week to get out. Come with us and let us show you a piece of Florida you may have never seen.
