Boca Grande
Every Spring, tarpon migrating out of the Keys and Everglades make their way to Boca Grande Pass. Through June they also spread out along the beaches and throughout Charlotte Harbor and all its bays and sounds. It’s for this reason that Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor are considered by many to be the tarpon capital of the world. In addition, the backcountry located between Gasparilla and Boca Grande Pass consists of clear clean Gulf water and a good mix of mangrove shoreline and turtle grass flats. It’s one of my favorite areas to hunt redfish. It’s a very diverse estuary in that we can work flies up against a mangrove shoreline or out on the grass flats in and around the many sandholes mixed in with the turtle grass.
