Right now, we’ve just experienced three good cold fronts and the wind is blowing strong from the north. The spotted sea trout like the cooler weather and will feed aggressively. Moreover, our seasonally low tides are even more pronounced by the strong north winds. This results in even more water being blown out of all our bays and sounds making the trout school up in the deeper sand holes within the flats. If you can find the right holes, it can make for some fun catch and release fishing. In fact, this is one of my favorite fisheries to introduce new salt water fly anglers to as it’s a great way to practice salt water fundamentals. This includes fundamentals like the strip strike. Even better, a trout’s take or eat is quite aggressive and hit a fly hard. It can be a lot of fun.
